Fukinaoshi – Japanese term, meaning to “re-do” overgrown trees.

Thinning or pruning old growth can not only make an older tree look as aesthetic as the Fukinaoshi example shown below, it can also provide materials for mulching that would otherwise sit unproductively on the plant.

If it’s not photosynthesising, it’s probably not feeding the ecosystem.
